Infinitive Clause/Phrase: To + verb-এর base form, to+verb-এর base form + object এবং to + verb-এর base form + adverbial কে infinitive clause বলে। এদেরকে infinitive phrase ও বলা হয়।

যেমন-

He wants to go.

This is the way to see city.

We need to act quickly.

I am glad to know your success.

Infinitive Phrase হলো এমন একগুচ্ছ শব্দ যা একটি Infinitive (To + Base verb) এবং তার সাথে সম্পর্কিত অন্যান্য শব্দ (Object বা Modifier) নিয়ে গঠিত হয়। বাক্যে এটি মূলত Noun, Adjective অথবা Adverb হিসেবে কাজ করে।

১. গঠন (Structure):

To + Verb (Base form) + Object/Modifier

• উদাহরণ: To play (Infinitive) cricket (Object).

• উদাহরণ: To read (Infinitive) books daily (Modifier).

২. বাক্যে ব্যবহারের ধরন ও ভূমিকা:

ক) Noun হিসেবে:

যখন এটি বাক্যের Subject (কর্তা) বা Object (কর্ম) হিসেবে কাজ করে।

• উদাহরণ: To travel around the world is my dream. (এখানে এটি বাক্যের Subject)।

• উদাহরণ: I love to eat fresh fruits. (এখানে এটি Verb-এর Object)।

খ) Adjective হিসেবে:

যখন এটি কোনো Noun বা Pronoun-কে বিশেষায়িত করে বা বর্ণনা দেয়। এটি সাধারণত সেই Noun-এর ঠিক পরেই বসে।

• উদাহরণ: Give me a book to read. (এখানে 'to read' অংশটি 'book'-কে বর্ণনা করছে)।

• উদাহরণ: This is the best way to solve the problem.

গ) Adverb হিসেবে:

যখন এটি কোনো কাজ কেন করা হচ্ছে (উদ্দেশ্য) তা বোঝায় অথবা কোনো Adjective-কে বিশেষায়িত করে।

• উদাহরণ: He went to the market to buy a shirt. (এখানে বাজারে যাওয়ার উদ্দেশ্য বোঝাচ্ছে)।

• উদাহরণ: English is easy to learn.

৩. Bare Infinitive (উহ্য 'To'):

কিছু নির্দিষ্ট Verb-এর (যেমন: make, let, help, see, hear) পর 'to' ছাড়াই Infinitive Phrase গঠিত হতে পারে। একে 'Bare Infinitive' বলা হয়।

• উদাহরণ: She let him go there. (এখানে 'to go' না হয়ে কেবল 'go' বসেছে)।
